It assumed responsibility for operating the German National Library for technology, architecture, chemistry, information technology, mathematics and physics as well as the University Library for Leibniz Universität Hannover. As a central specialised library, it is a national infrastructure facility for the provision of scientific information. The aim of TIB is to provide its users with innovative, efficient and smooth access to data, information and knowledge. Specifically, the Research and Development Department of TIB designs and implements data-driven infrastructures that enable scientific data-intensive applications, and knowledge representation and discovery.
The TIB team aims at the development of cutting-edge infrastructures for managing Big Data, representing knowledge extracted from this data, and for exploiting this knowledge in the discovery of unknown patterns. The goal of these infrastructures is to ease the integration and analysis of large and complex datasets, enabling the collaboration of all the key players in Big data value chains. Currently, Big Data-driven solutions devised by the TIB team provide the basis for the support of Big Data management and query processing in diverse Big Data projects.
Similarly, in CLARIFY, big data-driven infrastructures and AI techniques are developed to enable the transformation of Big Data into the actionable knowledge that supports knowledge analytics and decision making to understand the quality the life of cancer patients. To this end, TIB is in charge of supporting the integration of heterogeneous data sources and semantification of Big Data within the CLARIFY project.
